About the German Thing

Dear Subscriber,

By the way, I DO know what the German thing is (though I don't
speak German); I just sent it as a test to see if anyone else on my
list could understand German enough to recognize it. Here's a huge
hint: if it was in English, a lot of you would recognize it, but
most of the world wouldn't.

Sincerely,

Any German-Speakers?

Dear Subscriber,

If anyone on my list speaks (or at least understands) German, check
this out. See if you recognize it.

New Hampshire? Hello?

Dear Subscriber,

Well, that was odd. I asked about doing an "Escaping the Myth"
event up in New Hampshire, and got almost no response. What makes
it odd is that when I was talking about doing the one in Michigan
(which already happened), a bunch of people in and around New
Hampshire said they wanted one to happen up there, too. When I said
there would be one, they went quiet. What gives? I was thinking I
might do one, maybe on Saturday, August 25, in Lancaster, NH, where
Porcfest happens. Or maybe not.

Maybe if I start talking about the one in Florida, then people in
New Hampshire will respond. So... I'm hoping to present "Escaping
the Myth" down in Florida some time in September, probably around
Lakeland (between Tampa and Orlando). But I'd need to have some
idea how many people to expect, before I dare reserve a conference
room down there.

Sincerely,

Larken Rose

(P.S. Somehow I wouldn't be surprised if some people respond to
this message by saying, "You did one in Michigan, and I missed it?")

"Escaping the Myth" (New Hampshire)

Dear Subscriber,

Last weekend was the very first "Escaping the Myth" event. I think
it went very well, and I think everyone there had fun. Shortly I'll
be telling you more, based on what those who attended have to say
about it. (Who cares if the presenter had fun?)

But right now it's time to plan the SECOND edition. The biggest
change will be that this time around, we will do the whole thing in
ONE day, instead of two--starting earlier (probably 9:00 a.m.) and
ending later (probably 9:00 p.m.). That should make a few things
easier and cheaper.

To get to the point, I need to quickly get some idea of how many
people would be there. If I do the event at Roger's Campground,
where Porcfest happens every year (just outside Lancaster, NH), and
it was on a Saturday or Sunday near the end of August, who would be
there? You can camp, rent a cabin, stay at the motel--all of which
are within a couple hundred YARDS of the conference room in the
main building where "Escaping the Myth" would take place.

For the second version, in part because now it will all happen on
one day, I'm dropping the price to $60 for one ticket, and $50 for
each addition ticket you buy. Again, I hope the people already
familiar with what I do will find a way to bring along some others
who aren't--I especially want people who are NOT already obsessed
with political philosophy.

I don't yet have the place reserved, because I want to make sure a
decent number of people would attend, before I finalize the plan.
So right now, all I'm asking is for your best guess of whether
you'd be there, and how many people you think you could bring along.

Sincerely,

Larken Rose

Can't Beat That! ("Escaping the Myth")

Dear Subscriber,

A strange thing just happened. A very generous, anonymous donor
donated enough money to pay for a bunch of people--maybe including
YOU--to go to the "Escaping the Myth" event up in Troy, Michigan
later this month. So if you live anywhere near Detroit, one of your
best excuses for not going (the cost of the thing) just
disappeared. Here's more info:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIUlcg5p_Ig

Okay, NOW I'll shut up about the event. But I thought that a
complete stranger being willing to pay your way, without even
wanting credit or recognition, was worth mentioning. If you want in
on the deal, fling me an e-mail.

Sincerely,

Larken Rose

"Escaping the Myth" for FREE?!

I have an important question to ask. If the "Escaping the Myth"
event happening up in Troy, Michigan on July 21 and 22 were FREE,
how many more people would go? I'm wondering, for those people who
might otherwise be interested in attending, is the cost the main
obstacle? Is the time and/or travel the main obstacle? Believe me,
any or all of those would be perfectly understandable. If it were
free, how many more would attend? (Again, this is specifically
about the one in Troy, Michigan, happening July 21 and 22; I'm NOT
just asking who would want to go to it somewhere at some time if it
were free.)

I ask because I'm considering doing something bold and daring--or
maybe just stupid (I'm not sure which, yet). I'm thinking of giving
away tickets for free (but no more than 50 total), and then after
the event, people could decide what, if anything, they wanted to
donate. I would make the donations anonymous, whether done there or
later by mail, so no one (including me) would know who paid, or how
much. No obligation, no pressure. Again, I haven't decided to do
this yet, but I'm considering it.

So, if you would attend a FREE "Escaping the Myth" event on July 21
and 22, up in Troy, please fling me an e-mail saying so, and saying
how many people you'd expect to bring along. And please do NOT be
embarrassed to say, "Yeah, I'd go, as long as I don't have to pay
for it!" Given my own situation, that's exactly what I'd say. I
would much rather have 40 or 50 people there, and have 15 decide to
pay something for it, than have only 15 people there. (If this
works this time, this may become my policy for all future "Escaping
the Myth" events, too.)

(P.S. If I decide to do this, I would refund what people have
already paid for tickets. Then they could decide afterward whether
it was worth paying for again.)

(P.P.S. Feel free to forward this message around to any other
Michiganders who you think might be interested.)
